Wardrip was released on parole in December 1997. He was required to wear an ankle monitor allowing authorities to constantly track his location; he was restricted to movements for work, home and church.
He was paroled on December 11, 1997, and he moved to Olney, Texas, where he became an active supporter of the local church, gaining a good reputation.

During the trial, a psychiatrist of Nair Hospital, Mumbai was cited as a defence witness. He had interviewed the accused in Arthur Road Prison on 5 August 1969 and gave evidence that the accused was suffering from Chronic paranoid schizophrenia for a long time and was therefore unable to understand that his actions were contrary to law. He was visiting the churches near by to seek forgivness. He once said whatever I do Jesus will forgive me.
Karl Denke
外號 Cannibal of Münsterberg, Forgotten Cannibal.

Karl Denke, for unknown reasons, began murdering homeless vagrants and poor travellers. His first known victim was Ida Launer in 1903.
Denke volunteered as a cross-bearer and organist at the local Lutheran church, and was well-liked in his community, often affectionately referred to as "Papa" by the community. Denke quit his membership in the church in 1906.
