Ants die for their mates. In fact, many social animal will die for each other.
Science already told you that dying for your love one is common. (And evolutionarily advantageous)
Nature is full of hate, nature is full of love. What Jesus did, is stupid. The Muslim who crash a plane to WTC is doing it for the love of his God. He is as good as Jesus. Hitler is also mass murdering for the love of God, Christian's God.
----------------
Dying for someone is easy, living for someone is difficult. Living for your tribe's mate is rare (but not impossible), even among social animal.
In the light of these challenges, how would you think of your own religion:
1 The only true statement about God or ultimate reality is "I don't know." Say more, and there's just one appropriate response: "You're a liar." If someone claims to know that something is true, and they really are clueless, that's a lie. Again, it can be called by another name, such as faith, but that doesn't change anything.
Sure. Couple speak of loving each other that they would die for each other. However, not many will lie for the other.
It is easy to die for the others, it is difficult to live a life for them.
I suggest you to be the devil, don't underestimate the power of sex. Let actions and facts speak for themselves.

As your husband is a man, I suspect it is his pride your have hurt, not his religion. You are suspecting his intelligence and judgement. Men are strange animal that value their pride over their life.
I suggest you try to play the innocent card, play dumb, and ask the hard questions that way instead (but maybe it is too late).
To force yourself to believe is terribly wrong.
Your mind is clearer than your husband, that's why you do not agree with what have been written in the bible.
You have 2 options:
1. pretend to believe so that you can make your husband happy -->then you are not happy; or
2. tell him this is your freedom of choice, keep the relationship and don't say anything about christianity to each other.
